Mr. MacNichol has been teaching high school biology and chemistry for the past 12 years in the Lower Merion School District at Harriton High School. During that time, Mr. MacNichol has taught science courses at every level offered, from college prep to higher level International Baccalaureate (IB) and Advanced Placement (AP). Mr. MacNichol earned his Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Biology from the College of Charleston and his Master of Education (M.Ed.) with a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics from Arcadia University.
In addition to his role as a teacher, Mr. MacNichol has served in many extracurricular roles as both a coach and a mentor. He is currently a coach for Harriton’s perennial state champion Science Olympiad team, and the sponsor of Harriton’s Science Club, while previously coaching both football and squash.
Mr. MacNichol believes that science is best taught by engaging students with the natural phenomena around them every day. His students will be encouraged to hypothesize, develop models to explain their observations, and analyze their findings to make strong, justified conclusions.
